Today in the states, it’s the day deemed to depress most of america… single or a couple.
Why?? Cause it’s Hallmark’s day to get you to spend money & express your love to you loved ones. But as someone who’s never really bought into what “THEY” say! Why do they say what i do or don’t do & how I actually should do it.
Have you ever noticed you never got to choose who they are? I’ve never seen an election or was asked to be on their team. Yet they have so much power to get people in trouble or make others feel horrible.
14 Feb… Valentine’s day. Last time I checked there are 365 days in a year. What about love the rest of the days of the year? Does one get a free pass on those days long as V-day is remembered? That, my friends would be a big, fat, juicy NO!!!
On the flip side, what if I did something special 300 days out of the year to show you how much I love & appreciate you. But come V-day or rather a few days or weeks before I had a plumbing leak at the house & it was major money to fix. Thus sadly I couldn’t do anything for V-day. All my extra cash got eaten up fixing the leak. Do I get a pass??? The past days that had nothing to do with V-day where I simply showed love for my mate just because they are who they are…. does that count?
More often than not, no it doesn’t count as it they won’t have anything to brag about to their friends. They will get shunned! Why cause I didn’t do it on the day society deems the right day. lol
Thus the day of love becomes a source of frustration on both sides.
In my past, when I dated I gave my girl a choice in the very beginning & she HAD to choose. I made it super simple, she could choice a traditional relationship where I adhered to all the mandated stuff: birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, V-day & Sweetest day if you’re in the Midwest. Sweetest day: hallmark didn’t have any way to sell cards in Sept so they created another version of V-day. Funny no day is created for men to get any love or treated special. lol
Or she could choose the Avant Purple relationship… my own special version of a relationship. Allow me to explain the Avant Purple. I’m a big… huge believer in love. Although I have no luck at it. 🙂 But in my mind if i ever got married, I wanted to throw I love my wife parties. No reason just a party to celebrate her beauty as a human being.
However in dating when the thought occurred to me or I had extra cash then i would do something special for her. Didn’t matter the day or occasion essentially any day that ends in “y” was a good day. It could be flowers for no reason, a card, a note written on the bathroom mirror, stick notes in her pockets of her jacket. I’ve written poems & had them engraved in glass. The cool thing about having four seasons in Ohio was I could put notes in the summer in her winter jacket, purses, gloves for her to find when it got cold. In essence she could literally be surprised any time of the year. Not to say I didn’t or wouldn’t do the traditional days either, but if something happened & i didn’t have the money or was stuck working over time i didn’t have to worry about her being pissed at me.
Once again, it’s totally her choice: traditional with the mandatory 5 days that she is guaranteed to get gifts etc as deemed by societal norms. Or she allow me to be who I truly am & embrace the Avant Purple where I was free to do things when I felt moved to do them. I’ve had women choose both actually, but those who choice traditional eventually learned life in the Avant Purple was so much better.
Don’t worry my rant is almost over. 🙂 I have no date or plans for V-day this year & haven’t for several years now. It’s all good though, but for all the beautiful people who find this page today the flowers below are for you. I can’t be everywhere to give them to you personally, but here’s a cyber bundle of star gazer lilies, my personal favorite.
Love & light… Happy Valentine’s Day

Your article was absolutely amazing. I love actually hearing a man’s point of view, and you definitely touched on that. I try to show love in ALL I do, not just on one day. You deserve love and then some. Sounds like a
fairytale waiting to come true in how you treat a woman and how You deserve to be treated. Keep doing what you are doing.

Thanks Yanni! I’m glad that my humble words resonated with you. Great to hear you are walking in love as well. 🙂
Living in LA can be quite discouraging trying to make “real” connections with people. So I put my thoughts & ideas to paper… now to share with the world hopefully.
From your mouth to God’s ears that their is someone who believes in what I believe & we meet in this lifetime. Have a blessed day!
